The 4th Dr F.C. Eggleston Memorial Oration was held on 7th December 2024, and this year the Oration coincided with the 50th Anniversary of the Department of Paediatric Surgery in CMC and Hospital Ludhiana.
Dr N.K. Choudhary, Secretary, Dr FC Eggleston Memorial Trust, shared the visionary leadership of Dr Eggleston and his contribution to establish residency programme in surgical training. The Chief Guest and Orator for this year was Professor Sudipta Sen, former Head of Paediatric Surgery in CMC Vellore. He shared his lifetime experience of surgical solutions to various disorders, associated with urinary bladder in children. Following the oration, a CME was conducted on Wilms’ Tumor, Neuroblastoma and collaboration in Paediatric malignancy. Lectures were delivered by Professor Yogesh K Sarin, Dr Nitin Peters and Dr Shruti Kakkar. Dr HPS Miglani, Dr Ashish Chabra, Dr Alka Grewal, Dr Karmveer Goyal and Professor Parvez Haque were the dignitaries present for the CME.
Dr William Bhatti, Head of Paediatric Surgery and Director, CMC Ludhiana gave the welcome address. He also spoke on the department’s legacy, as paediatric surgery work in CMC Ludhiana was formally initiated 50 years ago by Prof. MC Deodhar who received training at Pittsburgh USA. In 2003, Paediatric Surgery unit was established as an independent department by Professor Vinod Prem Singh, as head of the department. In 2012, MCh training in Paediatric Surgery was started by Dr. William Bhatti and Dr. Dhruv Ghosh. The Department has stood at the forefront of surgical care of the children in Punjab and North India. Currently, our mission of providing excellent surgical care, training and research is being carried forward by Professor Dhruv Ghosh, Dr Vishal Michael and dedicated nursing staff.
